Session 2 - Speed Learning Session

Bringing Students' Career Goals and Readiness to the Forefront
Christine Routzahn and Dustin Eby, University of Maryland, Baltimore County

Today, one does not have to peer into a crystal ball to see the impact technology can have on what we do. Not only are career opportunities evolving, but so too is the work of Career Centers. Nearly every aspect of career services and recruiting needs to demonstrate return on investment and this is not possible without data. How can our data positively impact student career readiness and demonstrate career success at both the undergraduate and graduate levels? Join Dustin Eby and Christine Routzahn to learn about some UMBC initiatives that are bringing students career goals and readiness to the forefront. Additionally, connect with MCC colleagues to obtain ideas on how to best leverage your data to engage members across your campus in supporting career readiness and sharing your students' first destination career outcomes.

Engaging Students in Strengths Development to Promote Strong Communication Skills
Georgina Bliss, Washington College

Gallup Clifton Strengths 34 in combination with leadership and career development offers students an opportunity to cultivate strong verbal communication and soft skills especially those needed to navigate intimidating, in person processes, such as a 30-second pitch or interview

Educating and Training your Employer Partners
Lana Farley, University of Baltimore and Matthew Johnson, University of Baltimore

This session will discuss strategies for educating and training employers on hosting this generation of students.

Maximizing Student Engagement in Applied Learning
Chrisi Giannakaris, University of Maryland, Baltimore County and Susan Hindle, Universisty of Maryland Baltimore County

At UMBC we have developed programming to support student engagement in applied learning opportunities as well as encourage networking and professional development. Each year we design and host events and programs to expose students to benefits of applied learning including conferences, boutique career fairs, tailored newsletters and industry specific panels comprised of professionals who share their career journeys and offer advice and strategies for success. Join us to learn more about the various programs we've created and share your own ideas.
